School-based Mental Health Clinician and Assistant Coordinator

Oakes Children’s Center is a mental health and educational facility dedicated to providing education and mental health services to youth with emotional and/or developmental challenges and to their families, particularly in under-served communities. Our goal is to foster the social, emotional and educational growth necessary for children to continue learning and fully realize their potential.  We fulfill our mission by providing individualized education, innovative and culturally-responsive therapeutic services, comprehensive assessment, and clinical training.

The Partnership Program is a joint effort between Oakes Children Center and San Francisco Unified School District that utilize Oakes’ clinical expertise to allow children with severe emotional and behavioral issues to stay in a public school setting. Oakes mental health clinicians work with Special Education classrooms providing therapy and consultation at the public school site. The clinicians provide therapeutic services in a range of settings and formats in the classroom and individually, and also offer collaborative consultation with the educational staff and parents.



  • License in Psychology, Social Work, or MFT, or license eligibility
  • Experience working with children in a psychotherapeutic setting
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of individual and family therapy, case management, and clinical social work
  • Ability to apply clinical skills effectively, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, securing and recording accurate and clinically pertinent psycho-social data
  • Ability to work well with school, social, legal and medical systems
  • Knowledge of public schools systems preferred
  • Knowledge of DSM 5


  • Experience with Medi-Cal documentation
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development and mandated reporting laws
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multicultural client population
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Training and experience with Autistic Spectrum Disorders


  • Perform comprehensive mental health and treatment services to clients including: intake evaluations, assessments, individualized treatment plans, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy, treatment planning, collateral, case management, and outreach
  • Establish good working relationships with school staff members and outside professionals in order to maintain continuity of care
  • Coordinate with San Francisco Unified School District and Community Behavioral Health Services Staff in providing Educational-Related Mental Health Services
  • Represent program coordinator as needed and provide support to trainees, postdoctoral and clinicians and administrative staff at Oakes to assist in smooth operation of school-based programs
  • Attend Individual Education Plan (IEP), SFUSD, and DPH Meetings
  • Ensure compliance with Medi-Cal, agency, state, and county guidelines and quality assurance standards
  • Complete all documentation as required by CBHS in a timely manner
  • Produce the required number of billable units per month
  • Review clinical interventions and case documentation with supervisor
  • Build relationships with new partnership school sites, as needed
  • Maintain relationships at current school sites with visits and correspondence throughout the school year
