Oakes Children’s CenterOakes Children’s Center is dedicated to providing education and mental health services to youth with emotional and/or developmental challenges and to their families, particularly in underserved communities. Our goal is to foster the social, emotional and educational growth necessary for children to continue learning and fully realize their potential.  We fulfill our mission by providing individualized education, innovative and culturally-responsive therapeutic services, comprehensive assessment, and clinical training.

The Counseling Enriched Education Program, or CEEP, is one of four programs at Oakes. The CEEP is a non-public school, certified by the California Department of Education and serves children in grades K – 8, who demonstrate significant educational, emotional and behavioral needs.

The Special Director’s role is to oversee the academic program of the CEEP and to manage the operations of the school with the CEEP Program Coordinator. In collaboration with the full Clinical team at the agency, the CEEP Education Director is responsible for integrating the curricular, therapeutic and behavioral components in the classroom milieu. This position reports directly to the Executive Director 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • California Level II Mild/Moderate OR Moderate/Severe Credential
  • Possession of, or qualified to earn a California Administrative Credential

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years plus teaching ED students in a public school or NPS classroom (required)
  • 3 years plus supervising teachers in a Special Education setting (preferred)

FTE: 1.0, with start date dependent on applicant's availability, but July 1, 2018, at the latest

RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Special Education Director’s mission is to continue to develop and maintain a highly reputable, innovative and clinically-informed educational program at Oakes.  This educational program optimizes each child’s potential while addressing his/her disabilities.  The CEEP Education Director helps maintain a focus on the mission of the organization, providing integrated educational and mental health services to children and their families so that they can remain in or transition to the least restrictive environment. Teaching teams and clinical staff work together to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and clear communication.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative

  • With consultation by and in collaboration with the Clinical Director and CEEP Clinical Team, the  Education Director provides co-leadership of the CEEP with the CEEP Program Coordinator.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with contracting school districts
  • Represents Oakes Children's Center while working with SELPA and California Department of Education.
  • Participates in annual rate negotiations with Bay Area SELPA Collaborative

Academics & Behavior

  • Training and mentoring teachers in the areas of curriculum development and instruction
  • Overseeing the design of the individualized curriculum that meets individual IEP, SFUSD, IDEA, and CDE standards
  • Modeling and supporting behavioral interventions
  • Supervising the implementation of Oakes’ Positive Behavior System
  • Researching and ordering curriculum materials

General Programmatic

  • Serving in the capacity of school administrator with respect to decisions about student discipline
  • Responding to a teacher, parent/guardian, and student inquiries
  • Meeting with other managerial staff regarding intake, current programmatic issues, long-range planning
  • Representing teachers and educational issues during meetings
  • Addressing attendance issues with the children and their families

HR/Supervision

  • Hiring, training and supervising all CEEP teaching staff
  • Maintaining regular evaluation notes in Trakstar for all direct reports
  • Monitoring bi-monthly timesheets

Documentation

  • Setting up and maintaining procedures to document staff paperwork and behaviors (e.g. lesson plans turned in, staff utilizing new skills, etc.)
  • Preparing applications for NPS certification, CDE Self Review, and CDE On-Site Review
  • Maintaining IEP paperwork and files.

School Districts /Outside Agencies

  • Acting as the liaison between Oakes and all contracting school districts
  • Coordinating, writing, editing and holding IEPs
  • Coordinating Statewide and another educational testing
  • Networking with other schools and agencies; attending SELPA, CAPSES meetings
  • Staying abreast of current legislation affecting our program

Financial

  • Monitoring all classroom budgets
  • Assisting Director of Finance in development of educational budgets
