Oakes Children's Center, Inc. is a mental health agency with an on-site non-public school. The agency is dedicated to providing education and mental health services to at-risk and underserved youth. Our goal is to foster the social, emotional and educational growth necessary for children to continue learning and to fully realize their potential. We fulfill our mission by providing individualized education, innovative and culturally-responsive therapeutic services, comprehensive assessment, and clinical training. The center was founded in 1963 by a group of parents concerned with the special needs of their children with developmental delays. Oakes Children's Center has since grown to include three different programs: the Counseling Enriched Education Program, the SFUSD-Partnership Program, and the Outpatient Program.


Oakes also has a psychology Training Program that provides clinical training to Psychology graduate students, including advanced practicum students, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows. Currently, the internship program is an APPIC member and is in the process of seeking further accreditation. The program focuses on training future psychologists and leaders for work in community-based settings, serving underserved populations, and providing relational psychodynamic and trauma-informed practices. Youth served across all programs at the agency range in age from 5-22. There are currently 3 classrooms in the CEEP educational program from Kindergarten up to and ending at 8th grade. Oakes is licensed by the State Department of Education as a Non-Public School and certified as a Medi-Cal clinic.


  • Psy.D. or Ph.D. degree in psychology with an emphasis on children and adolescents
  • Experience in providing psychodynamic supervision
  • Experience with severe and high-risk populations
  • Excellent communication and supervisory skills
  • Clinical experience in working with children, adolescents, and their families
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Expertise in Medi-Cal documentation and/or (Avatar) digital medical record systems
  • Commitment to community based work
  • Familiarity with school and mental health systems
  • Experience working with trauma and strong understanding of traumatized populations
  • Proficient in computer applications and data collection
  • CA Psychologist license
  • Experience in psychological assessment of children and adolescents using cognitive and projective assessments is preferred
  • Experience providing school-based services is preferred

Responsible to: Clinical Director

FTE: 40 hours per week. This is an exempt position.


This position has two distinct areas of responsibility:


FOCUS AREA 1: Provide clinical oversight to the Counseling Enriched Education Program and to all direct services staff in this program to ensure the provision of ethical, effective, and quality mental health services to clients using trauma-informed and relational psychodynamic clinical methods.


Tasks include (but may not be limited to):

  • Supervision of classroom counselors
  • Provide live observations and immediate/direct feedback to direct services staff in the milieu regarding clinical interventions used
  • Provide clinical coverage as necessary and coordinate with appropriate staff
  • Documentation of clinical work in accord with the center’s policies, including pertinent charting and co-signature of chart notes and to make sure that all clinical paper work is submitted in a timely fashion
  • Evaluation of classroom counselors
  • Participation in the center’s Treatment Review and PURQ meetings
  • Regular meeting and collaboration with Clinical Director, CEEP Program Manager, Training Director, and Quality Assurance Manager
  • Program planning aimed at providing excellent relational informed therapy in a school setting
  • Collaborate with Clinical Director and other clinical managers to develop procedures that includes use of appropriate psychological assessment tools
  • Participation in agency meetings as assigned
  • Delivery of training activities


FOCUS AREA 2: Support internship and trainee program in meeting high training and skill-building standards and in delivering effective clinical services to Oakes’ clients through supervision and training activities.


Tasks include (but may not be limited to):

  • Provide supervision to pre-doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral clinicians
  • Regular meeting and collaboration with Training Director, Clinical Director, and Quality Assurance Manager
  • Evaluation of interns and trainees
  • Provide supervision of psychological assessments
  • Documentation of clinical work in accord with the center’s policies, including pertinent charting and co-signature of chart notes and to make sure that all clinical paper work is submitted in a timely fashion
